When Joel and I watched the Bowling Green women's basketball team dismantle Kent State in Saturday's MAC women's final, two things quickly became apparent to me:
1) After years of watching good BG men's teams that were unable to overcome great Kent teams, it was wonderful to watch a Kent team be overmatched by BG.
2) BG coach Curt Miller has succeeded in fielding a frontcourt of female Rasheed Wallaces.
A photo in today's Plain Dealer summed up the 64-39 thrashing. A fierce-looking Carin Horne is raking the ball away from noticeably-strained Kent player Sarah Burgess.
Burgess' ponytail couldn't save her.
"Go on, ice princess, come inside again," Horne's expression seems to say. "I'll put you and your no-drip mascara in the fifth row."
After following finesse Cavaliers and Ohio State teams all year, the ferocity and muscle of the BG women was refreshing to watch.
They got to just about every loose ball, grabbed the bulk of the rebounds and excelled in the low-post mosh pit.
The mere fact that there was a low-post mosh pit in a women's basketball game speaks volumes as to the type of team Miller has put on the floor. They beat Kent last year, too, and lost a close first-round game to Kansas State in the NCAAs.
This year, armed with that experience and an even more dominant team, BG is a good candidate to win a few games.
We'll know their bracket and seeding Monday. Seven, in my humble opinion, is a worthy seeding. Anything less than 10 is a travesty.

If I'm not mistaken, the BG dudes went to Kent this year and beat 'em. So there.
